U.S. Olympic Team Trials Gymnastics
On July 8th & 10th, the SAP Center in San Jose, CA held the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Two days of competition that determined which five gymnasts and three replacement athletes would go on to represent the Unites States at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. Wei Jiang, the founder of Ms. J’s Gym, attended the exhilarating event!
Wei Jiang attended the event with a close friends including but limited to Coaches Liang Chow (of Chow’s gym in Iowa) and Qi Han and Yiwen Chen (Everest Gym in North Carolina). The competition was especially exciting because Ashton Locklear, a gymnast of Everest gym, secured a spot as an alternate for the 2016 Olympics alongside MyKayla Skinner and Ragan Smith. The gymnasts that make up the team that has been nicknamed the “Fierce Five” are Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian, and Aly Raisman.
Wei Jiang also met with International Gymnast Hall of Fame inductee, Svetlana Boquinskaia. Svetlana Boginskaya (alternate spelling) competed in 3 Olympic Games. She was one of two gymnasts that had competed on 3 different national teams.
The event at San Jose was filled with energy. Everyone at Ms. J’s Gym can’t wait to see what the gymnasts from the United States and around the world will showcase the world in Rio! We wish the Fierce Five, Ashton, MyKayla, and Ragan all the best in Rio!
